This post is going to be a little different than usual.

Most of the time, I write about forensic science, life lessons, and trying to untangle this wild journey called adulthood. But today, I want to honor someone who’s been there through it all — someone who’s been a consistent, grounding part of my growth: my best friend.

This one's for Shorty. 💛
Yep — the one person in my life who’s actually shorter than me (a rare and magical species 😂). But in all the ways that matter? She’s a giant — in loyalty, in heart, in everything that counts.

We met back in 7th grade chorus class — not singing, not harmonizing… but bonding over middle school drama. You know the kind. The “did you hear what she said about so-and-so?” kind of chaos that somehow brought us closer. Who would've thought that a little gossip would turn into a lifelong friendship?

Since then, it’s been over a decade of ride-or-die memories:
🛍️ Hanging out at the mall like it was our full-time job.
🛏️ Spending the night at her place even when I wasn't even supposed to come over (oops).
🌊 And last year’s birthday trip to Ocean City — still one of the best weekends ever. We laughed so hard, took photos that made us look lowkey in love, and just soaked up that rare kind of peace you only find with your favorite people.

We’ve been through hell and back, but somehow we’ve always found our way back to each other. No matter what changed around us, the one thing that never changed was you. You’ve been the friend who shows up, listens hard, and never lets go — even when life tried to pull us in different directions.

Watching you grow — into someone strong, soft, wise, and hilarious — has been a privilege. Honestly, if I could only root for one person in this life, it would be you. Every single time.

So as you walk into 23:
I hope you feel how much you’re loved.
I hope this year gives you rest, light, and everything you so freely give to others.
Because you deserve it all.

To my Shorty:
You’re not just my best friend. You’re my chosen sister.
You’re funny, fiery, and full of soul.
You’ve helped shape me in ways I’m still discovering.
And I’ll never stop being proud of you.
